A Bohemian Interior Style Board

What is bohemian you may ask? By definition: a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices. However, from my point of view, it’s about being eclectic – being free to choose by mixing various styles together to create that free-flowing, yet a cohesive aesthetic that you want to create for your space. The colors used are mostly bright hues, funky patterns mixed with muted tones of nature.

With that, I’ve composed a few items from `Sanyo Louise Designs` and that of “Dot & Bo” – love their furnishings and home accessories – pretty here and now mix of modernism, with a bit of nostalgia. So, here is where you can find those wonderful pieces shown on the below style board:

  • FROM THIS ANGLE WOOD CABINET, found here

Inspired Art Style – An`Art Of Arts`

So, I had the opportunity to enter an art contest yesterday, Tuesday, February 24th – its cut off date for submissions. I made it just in the nick of time. The contest was brought to my attention by a very dear friend of mine. He said, hey, San, you should enter that contest! I thought to myself me, no way! I don’t paint. I’m no artist, but then I thought again to myself and said, but you are very creative and can do it if you believe you can – see what you can whip up! Thus, I rose up to the challenge to a road I’ve yet to travel. By the way, hey, do you sometimes have those inner conversations with yourself? WEll, of course you do, especially if you’re consulting your genius! :  ) And, that’s just what I did! I said, hey there, genius within, do you mind giving me a hand or better yet, some ideas. As usual, the old creativity prompting begins with, well, simply to begin and thereafter just going with the flow – don’t fight it – just go with it, and let it take you where it may! And, that’s pretty much how I work whenever I do – I simply begin and go with the flow of it.

Now, being mindful of that, that’s just what I did yesterday when I began creating a piece for the “Artexpo New York 2015” art contest, which I’ve titled “Unwritten Spoken – San's Journey Collage Art10bJourney Evolved” – I got into the flow of it. The theme of the contest this year was “Passageways“, which could be interpreted as a transition, a new beginning, a literal passage or corridor or some other creative projection was entirely up to each contestant. Needless to say, this was my very first time entering an art contest. There was some unsure uneasiness to begin with, but after giving it a first go and getting feedback from that very dear friend of mine, my perspective was kicked into high gear from I shouldn’t do it to of course I can – I simply must – a total can-do attitude boost. Besides, what do I have to lose – nothing, because the truth of the matter is that I gained much! It was an absolute joy, and I was truly excited and juiced up with creative enthusiasm throughout the process! I realized in that moment that art is not about pretty and perfection and paintbrushes only, instead art is simply an expression of what one truly sees – your innate perfectly imperfect vision of how you perceive this life and its happenings. Art is a unique expression of our life’s journey through to here and now. A great way to put it is that, an artist sees life the way they are, and rarely, the extra special ones see it all as it really is. Either way, win or lose per the judging – I still feel like I’ve won, that I’m a winner, because it gave me much more than I expected and took nothing away. It was a fun exploration of self that brought about a deep awareness – that we’ve only scratched the surface of one’s creative imagination.

With this new window of expression that opened up for me, I decided to indulge even further and browsed through the 50-pages of the artwork submitted by various artist and decided to create a collage-art of my favorites, and while composing the collage, I realized that I’ve just created an art of arts. Hence, the title of today’s post! This proves that art is also a reflection of one’s creative-imaginative depth, and you can take bits and pieces of the whole and mold it into something truly new, amazing and wonderful! I believe that’s just what happened this morning with this piece that I created – the first of many collage-art to come!

To give credit where it’s due, here are the titles of the artworks that I used to compose the “Art of Arts” design style piece:Collage Art4

  1. “New Life, New Beginning”
  2. “Man About Town”
  3. “Portal Into Oneself”
  4. “Ready To Fly”
  5. “Sands Of Time”
  6. “My Ascension”
  7. “My Song”
  8. “Into The Sylvan”
  9. “Long Hall”
  10. “Wallflower”
  11. “Path To Eternity”
  12. And “The Big Spin”

So, guys, I’d love to know your thoughts about this inspirational style of nostalgic, pop art-ish artwork! Is it something that resonate well with you? Can you see the tremendous possibilities there? I’ve seen it, and what I also see is that collage-art is simply a way of reminding us that we are bits and pieces of the whole – separate, yet one! 😉

The Ultimate Man-Cave!

Turn your basement into the ultimate man-cave! How do you do that you may ask? Here’s a simple guide or checklist – decide what you would like your man-cave function to be:

  • A bar, with wood block countertop and industrial looking stools, with a family room like sitting area that boasts a ping-pong table, a game table for game nights, a video game deck  or a stage with drums/cymbals/a mic and the likes or even a pool table if you so wish.
  • A lounge, with flashing strobe lights and little chair and table set vignettes, with a sectional for hanging out with friends and family to foster conversation while having a cool drink.
  • Or a well put together, amazingly beautiful home theatre for those movie nights, with all of the bells and whistles (and on a budget too – without breaking the bank), which is inclusive of: dimmer ceiling lights, adjustable theatre seats or big comfy recliner chairs, a popcorn machine, movie nostalgic artwork to frame your wall, colors that are warm and inviting or lively and refreshing, a big screen or flat screen tv – you get the drift! You see where I’m going right? Just picture it in your mind’s eye, or let me do that and put it all together for you! Remember, the `reel` magic begins at home!

Interior Style Inspiration – How To Bring The Outside Into Your Space

A great way to bring the beautiful aesthetics of the outdoors into your space is to be sure that you expose parts of your wall with glass that allows you to see from the inside out, capturing the beautiful imagery that nature grants us. Bathroom1

In addition, be sure that you incorporate large or enough windows that will stream in the sunlight and showcase even more of that beauty from the outside in. As good, use colors on your wall, flooring and decor accessories that matches those of nature – the red for the leaves of Fall, greens for what you see on the trees during the Summer months, orange that you would see at sunset, the yellow of the sun at Sunrise, blue for the sky, the pink of the roses, etc. You get the drift – just go with the flow, and in no time, your space, whether it’s your bathroom, living room, kitchen, bedroom, etc. will exude the beauty that nature beholds! Last, in case you may not have it in your budget to add picturesque, grand windows and walls to your space, adding lots of greenery, whether ariticial or real and some lovely flowers too will do the trick.Bathroom

Your space will now be your sanctuary – creating a feeling of zen and harmony that’s one with nature and all that it offers – serenity, beauty and joy!

As always, when in doubt about how to best design your space to suit the outcome that you desire, consult an interior stylist professional, like yours truly.   :  )

What’s Your Style Color Story?

Carnival ColorsWe all have a story to tell by the choices that we make. In this case, I’m referring to your color story. What do your color choices say about you in the moment – what energy do you exude? How do you feel after you get dressed each day – refreshed, happy, or deflated and sad? What mood does your home space leave you in after getting home from a hard days work? Like prior to dating someone, those are some of the questions you want to consider and answer before you choose the colors of your life for both the styling of your home space and your person to make sure that they are a true match that will compliment you and say much about who you are as a person and the type of lifestyle that you live.

Studies have shown that certain colors put you in a better mood than others, which means that they play a very significant part of how you will feel or influenced to feel throughout any given day. When choosing colors, it’s best to choose those that match your personality or that will give you the mood that you desire. You want to be sure that you are elated by your choices – that they will pick you up even if you’re not feeling so great and that’s the power of color, whether or not you are aware of it. They can certainly change the way you feel in an instant. With that, take a look at the attached chart to get a better idea of just what I mean, for like you, colors have personalities! So, choose wisely those that serve you well, and you will become more familiar with that once you get more in tune with the effects that they do have on us.

Color Psychology1

Now that you’ve analyzed the psychology of colors, you should now have a better understanding of the type of feeling or mood various colors give off or vibrate into your life and that of the world around us. So, get into the habit of consciously choosing the colors that will make you feel at your best each day and that will tell your story for you without you having to open your mouth to talk about it. It will be a clear message or story if you will when seen. In that, your style story is something readily seen, not spoken of.

Interior StylingAgain, what effect or impression does your choice of colors exudes? For example, for your home, darker colors retract and cause your space to look smaller, more compact – so they are not a smart choice for small spaces. However the upside of darker colors is that they do give off a warm, welcoming feeling, while lighter colors cause your space to expand and look bigger. However, the con is that some of those lighter colors come off as being very cold and uninviting. To explain, the feeling of expansion or retractation is a design trick of the eye known as trompe l’oeil – a visual deception appearing as real, but it is the real life effect that it does have on folks. When it refers to the clothes that you wear, your color choice can be read as being happy, depressed, confused, unsure, or that your sense of style might be a bit or greatly challenged. Either way, help is always just a phone call or email away, and I’m here to help you do just that. Leave a comment below, and it would be my absolute joy to be of service to you today!

A favorite style quote of mine is, “Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak”. ~ Rachel Zoe

Nonetheless, be inspired by the attached pictures! They give you some ideas of the story told by Fashioncolors. Examine them and take into account how they make you feel: warm, cold, relaxed, excited, upset, calm, etc. And, regardless of how simple it really is, I know sometimes choosing colors can be a daunting activity for some people, because you may not be sure just how to do it, or you might be concerned about being ridiculed for looking like a circus clown by pairing together some odd mix of colors. But when they are harmonious, you can make a great statement – one that’s uniquely your voice of style and that will turn heads. You will feel great about yourself, raise your confidence level, and folks will be WOW’d with how synergistically well your choice of colors all blend together. However, when in doubt, you can always tone down bright hues with muted hues or neutrals that compliment them. So, don’t be afraid to try new mix of colors. Just go with the flow and let the story of your choices take you where it will or that you consciously choose to move into your desired direction, regarding the mood that you want to achieve. Again, if you’re feeling unsure or uneasy about your choices, a style expert, like yours truly is your best option to seek for some guidance.

COLOR TIPS:

  • Choose colors that compliment your skin tone
  • Pick one of the colors that appears less in a color pattern and use that as the accent or standout color that highlight the majority, with that you can not go wrong with being in sync with the other colors. However, as with anything in life, too much of any one thing can be overbearing. So, be mindful not to accentuate with one of the more dominant (appears the most) colors of a pattern which could read as being too much
  • Choose neutrals to tone down bolder colors and that harmonize with your main color of choice or one that’s a true compliment to it on the color wheel
  • Use a contrasting color to the main color to add interest or to make it pop
  • Consciously choose colors that set the mood that you desire whether for your home space or fashionably speaking
  • And last, be brave! Step out of your comfort zone – go bold and have fun with it!

A Bit of Mid-Century Nostalgia

Mid-Century Nostalgia Style Board

Every now and then, we revisit the past, whether it’s to think back on a fond memory or a moment in time or to learn from a mistake made to ensure that we don’t make it again in the present. For now, we will stick to the first in mention, to revisit a fond memory or moment in time. For some of us, it’s a favorite era, our first date, our first boyfriend, your wedding day, our first car, your honeymoon or first vacation taken and so on. Today, it’s the nostalgia of an era or period in time that we love, and the mid-century vibe has certainly picked up steam. Here’s a style-board that will get your juices flowing on how to recreate that look in your home if so desired.

Interior Styling Tip/Tidbit: Always choose colors that are truly complimentary to the color story of that era. Applying variations of those colors is a great way to create monotony if you’re not the type of person that like having a bunch of colors in your space. However, to spice up a monotonous  color scheme, it’s greatly pleasing to the eye to inject a contrasting, yet complimentary color in the space, whether a vibrant or muted tone of it or even that of a neutral, will give your space the umph or added interest that it might be lacking.

At the end of it all, be sure that your space speaks for you. Let your unique personality or lifestyle shine through and make your space feel and look like the escape that you never want to leave and that your visitors would love and feel welcomed by, whether it’s a mid-century nostalgia, a rustic country Tuscany feel, a Parisian vibe, an eclectic Middle Eastern mix – whatever it is, go for it and turn your space into a happy place that reminds you of a favorite moment or period in time. If you’re not sure or your style sense is not quite there yet, then you can hire or consult a professional interior stylist like yours truly to give you some ideas! Leave a comment below if such is the case for you.

Style Your Home Office, With Productivity In Mind

Productive Home Office StyleBoard

Getting the most out of each day is a definite priority for us solopreneurs! We want to do the do of our day without being interrupted, without clutter or feeling uninspired. We want our space to look like and feel like a work haven – somewhat of a beautiful escape where we can zone in and truly focus on the tasks at hand. Thus, setting a schedule and sticking to it is also important. Here’s where you can do so online at http://www.calendly.com or go to your nearest office store and grab a good old fashion one.

At the same token, we want to ensure that we’re doing it well, from a wholesome and healthy perspective and with much style in tow. Often times, folks view being healthy or wholesome as being boring, but as you can see from the selections that I’ve made just above, you can to do it with much style.

I’ve searched for the coolest furnishings and decor accents that will beautify your space and make productivity a breeze. Also, attached here  is a (click on the link >>>) home office productivity info-graph from solopreneur Chris Ducker, whose article I drew inspiration from for today’s post.

Moment of truthExcessive sitting has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular problems, obesity, and a handful of other life-shortening problems. So, don’t let your desk or office habits, whether at home or otherwise be the death of you. With that, I’ve found the perfect desk solution that can alleviate or prevent those unhealthy issues from becoming eventful. It’s a smart desk, namely so, the “Kinetic Desk” by Stir Works. Here’s a video and graphics showing the smart, healthy and friendly features of it. It cost a pretty penny of $3,890.00, but it’s so worth it from my point of view, considering its many health supporting benefits and loads of smartness, and it’s available in two colors: espresso-stained hardwood top with black port covers and black legs and White, polished hardwood top with black port covers and gray legs (as shown in the pic below). I have also included a more budget friendly option, the “Work Fit-D, Sit-Stand Desk” by Ergotron, priced at $676.70 and can be found here for purchase.
